As the holiday season officially kicks off with Thanksgiving weekend and Black Friday, people are ready to shop and party til they drop. But the biggest joy of the season is in thinking of others.

There were equal amounts of cheers and tears as hundreds of riders, crew, volunteers, and supporters arrived in Key West on Nov. 18 for the last time. The 20th and final SMART Ride punctuate a movement that saw a community form under the organization’s umbrella and take on an organic life of its own.
Piles of food stretched out across the front lawn of Sanctuary Church. Hundreds of cars stretched around the building and back out onto Federal Hwy. The massive food giveaway on the Saturday before Thanksgiving encapsulates what the holidays should mean: gratitude from those receiving and gratitude from those giving.
Pennie Zuercher was named Finance Director for Wilton Manors in the city commission chambers on September 8, 2019, and she received a standing ovation. Now her last day is set for Nov. 30.
