More than 45 years after the first newspaper article about AIDS appeared in the New York Times, gay poet Steven Reigns continues to write about it; a literary reminder that the health crisis is far from over. As with his previous collection, “A Quilt For David,” the subject is front and center in his new book, “Outliving Michael” (Moon Tide Press, 2025). A far more personal effort, “Outliving Michael” is a devastating poetic tribute to Reigns’ late friend Jon Michael Church, who passed away at the age of 42 in 2000.

Spring always feels like the right time to shake up your reading list, and this month’s new releases are filled with heart, adventure, identity, and the kinds of stories that stay with you long after the final page.

If it’s one thing Lady Bunny is never short on, it’s opinions. Whether it’s Pamela Anderson, drag queen story hour or who could play her in a biopic, Bunny’s opinions remain directly pointed and raucously hilarious. As Bunny prepares to take on the Sunshine State (she is at FTL Improv on March 24), we sat down to chat about the state of drag today and what Lady Bunny could possibly still have left to do in her career.

Fort Lauderdale, and the surrounding area, host a diverse array of cultural events from winter through the beginning of spring, including major festivals, live performances, and ongoing art exhibits. It’s getting so that there’s almost no room on my calendar. Just take a look.

It’s still early in 2026, but once you witness Oscar-nominated actor Ryan Gosling’s riveting portrayal of science teacher/inadvertent planet savior Ryland Grace in “Project Hail Mary” (Amazon/MGM), you may agree that he’s a shoo-in for an Academy Award nomination and may, in fact, take home a statuette. His layered performance draws on both his comedic and dramatic skills in equal measure, combined with his general hotness (wait until you see him in one of his skintight space suits).

Ask any queer person, and they will tell you that we are virtually everywhere. Next door, across the street, holding political office, on the pulpit, on stage, in movies, in books, and on TV, falling in love in hockey rinks. Even performing with The Beatles and the Rolling Stones, as is illuminated in gay director Paris Barclay’s documentary “Billy Preston: That’s The Way God Planned It,” about the titular, late, gay, singer/songwriter and keyboard player.
