Every September through October, Latinx and Hispanic Heritage Month gives us a chance to celebrate the voices, traditions, and stories that help shape our communities.
The timing of the release of Andres Veiel’s documentary “Riefenstahl” (Kino Lorber), about actress/filmmaker/Nazi propagandist Leni Riefenstahl, is particularly notable. As far-right politicians and some followers spout hateful rhetoric, stirring the pot, regardless of the consequences, “Riefenstahl” is a reminder of what can occur in the wake of such blatant disregard for others.
Julie Olivia wanted to write a cozy story taking place during autumn in the 90s, and therefore came up with "If It Makes You Happy."
Nikki Payne wanted to write a romantic caper where a girl gets the justice she's denied in her real life, therefore wrote "The Princess and the P.I."
A Broward-based arts society that seeks to end racism and is “committed to nurturing the emotional, mental, & spiritual well-being of all people,” according to its website, will soon shine its cultural light on LGBTQ rights and history.
