For generations, Disney stories have continued to evolve while holding onto the sense of wonder that first made audiences fall in love with them. With Disney On Ice presents Mickey’s Search Party, that magic quite literally takes flight. The production blends world-class figure skating with acrobatics, aerial stunts, and vibrant projection mapping to create an experience that feels immersive, energetic, and full of heart.

As the show prepares to glide into South Florida this spring, stopping at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise and the Watsco Center in Miami, I had the chance to interview one of the talented performers behind the production about what makes Mickey’s Search Party so special. From bringing beloved worlds like Coco, Moana, and Frozen to life on the ice to balancing nostalgia for longtime Disney fans with something fresh for younger audiences, the show promises moments of joy, spectacle, and plenty of Disney magic.

Here’s what they had to say.

“Mickey’s Search Party” blends classic Disney storytelling with acrobatics and high-energy skating. What makes this production different from previous Disney On Ice shows audiences may have seen?

What makes Mickey’s Search Party different from previous Disney On Ice productions is the combination of many performance styles. In addition to great figure skating, the show features acrobatics, aerial performances, and colorful projection mapping that brings the audience directly into the stories. The visual effects and staging make the experience very dynamic and immersive.

I have performed in several other Disney On Ice productions, but this show is one of my favorites. It has a lot of energy, creativity, and excitement, and it is also a lot of fun for me to perform in.

The show takes audiences through several beloved worlds, from Coco to Moana to Frozen. How does the creative team bring such different stories and visual styles together on the ice in one cohesive adventure?

One of the most exciting things about this show is that it brings Disney movies to life in a completely different way. In a movie, everything happens on a two-dimensional screen, but in Mickey’s Search Party the action becomes fully three-dimensional on the ice.

Each world has its own special visual and performance elements. In Coco, for example, there are giant skeletons and a sway-pole act that creates a lively festival atmosphere. In Frozen, snow falls onto the ice, making the scene feel magical and immersive. In The Little Mermaid, Ariel and Prince Eric perform a beautiful aerial act that makes it look like they are floating and swimming through the air.

Even though the stories are very different, the creative team uses skating, acrobatics, aerial performances, and visual effects to blend them together into one exciting adventure for the audience.

One of the most exciting aspects of this production is the mix of skating and aerial stunts. Can you talk about the training and preparation required for performers to execute these moments safely while still making them look magical?

We work with very well-trained crew members who support the performers and help ensure everything is done safely. Safety is always our top priority.

We practice together regularly and carefully rehearse every movement to make sure everything works perfectly. Over time, the performers and crew build a strong level of trust with one another. Because of that teamwork and preparation, we can perform these challenging stunts safely while still making them look effortless and magical for the audience in every show.

Disney fans of all ages attend these shows. How do you balance nostalgia for longtime fans with creating something fresh and exciting for younger audiences experiencing Disney On Ice for the first time?

This show truly has something for everyone. It includes beloved classic Disney stories like Snow White, which many longtime fans grew up with, as well as newer favorites like Miguel from Coco and Moana, which younger audiences love today.

Because of this mix of classic and modern characters, families can enjoy the show together across generations. Audience members will see their favorite characters and hear the songs they love, whether they are longtime Disney fans or experiencing Disney On Ice for the very first time.

The search for Tinker Bell guides the story throughout the show. Why was this particular storyline chosen as the thread that connects all of these different Disney worlds?

Tinker Bell represents the idea of magic and wonder, which is an important theme in Disney stories. By following the search for her, the audience experiences many different adventures while still feeling that everything is part of one connected journey.

When audiences in South Florida come to see the show in Sunrise and Miami, what is one moment in Mickey’s Search Party that you think will leave them saying, “Wow, I’ve never seen that on ice before”?

There are many surprising moments in Mickey’s Search Party, but what I hope audiences remember most is the feeling they have when they leave the arena. I hope they walk out with a big smile on their faces, saying how much they enjoyed the show.

Everyone in the production works very hard to create magical and exciting moments on the ice, combining skating, aerial stunts, and incredible visual effects. Our goal is to bring joy and wonder to the audience every single day and give them an experience they will remember long after the show is over.
