From the controversial implementation of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” through the dark days of the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and state level mini-DOMAs to the modern legislative onslaught by Republican-fascists, there has been a constant presence standing up for South Florida’s LGBT community: The Pride Center.

“I don’t think Ernie [Yuen] should be in charge of a nonprofit.” That’s the not-so-ringing endorsement of Las Vegas PRIDE President Brady McGill, who worked with Yuen when Yuen was with the organization.

Four hundred and fifty bills target LGBT in 44 states, with Florida leading the way. Three hundred anti-abortion bills in 40 states, including Florida. Fifty-four anti-Black studies bills in 20 states, once again led by the Republican-fascists in Florida.

After two brutal legislative sessions in Tallahassee, South Florida’s LGBT community is still trying to understand what happened and figure out what’s next. State Rep. Daryl Campbell serves District 99, covering Wilton Manors and surrounding areas. He came to Hagen Park to give constituents a post-session briefing.
