After taking the usual summer hiatus, city commissioners returned to deal with a few issues at their Aug. 27 meeting.
Perhaps the most high-profile item was the unanimous vote to issue a permit allowing Wicked Manors to return on Halloween. The annual street festival wasn’t really in doubt, but given other issues with major events in recent years, it is still worth noting that the city is on board.
Commissioner Don D’Arminio noted that the current advertised cost is $10 in advance and $13 day of. He received support to add a line in the permit saying admission costs will not increase between now and the party.
Breaking News
You’ve seen, and hopefully stopped at, the red OutSFL boxes along Wilton Drive and throughout the city. They’re often joined by stands from other local publications.
None of them are new, and none of them conform to the city’s code. In July, OutSFL and others were given citations. However, commissioners agreed that the ordinances are out of date and are looking at changes.
Commissioners discussed broad ideas and instructed city staff to start drawing up language for amendments to the code. Publishers, including OutSFL, will likely have nine months to install new boxes.
All fines are suspended during the process.
