At Tropics Bar & Grille, you can order a cocktail and dinner with a side of democracy. From now through election day on Nov. 5, the cabaret room is now a Get Out the Vote (GOTV) center.
It officially opened its doors on Sept. 6. The grand opening is set for Friday, Sept. 20, at 3:30 p.m. and is open to everyone. The center will also host a phone bank on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 1 p.m.
The space, which is being generously provided by Tropics, has its own entrance from Wilton Drive as well as from the main dining room. It is stocked with campaign merch including lawn signs, buttons, pins, and more.
The site will also be a place for candidates to come and hold events and news conferences. Hours are 4-8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on weekends.
This is the fifth consecutive election cycle the LGBTQ+ Democratic Caucus and the Dolphin Democrats have opened a GOTV center in Wilton Manors. This year, for the first time, they also have a location in Tampa. It’s called Casa Harris and is at 6800 N. Dale Mabry.
