Drip. Drip. Drip.

Rain slipped through the ceiling of the old Pride Center, splashing into buckets arranged around the room. Cheap lamps from Poverello cast a weak glow over folding chairs and a table of snacks. The place, as CEO Robert Boo once put it, “smelled like a urinal.”

When Rae Jenae moved to Miami from New York in 2017, she was looking for lesbian-centered events and came up empty. So, she created her own. What began as an Instagram directory quickly turned into a nightlife empire. Her first event at Sidebar in 2018 drew more than 700 people, and she’s been curating queer nightlife ever since.
