The Subculture Group had a banner year, with readers recognizing multiple beloved venues across Palm Beach County. Honors included Best Restaurant in Delray Beach for Dada; Best Place for Breakfast for Howley’s; Best Place for Coffee for Subculture; Best Art Gallery for The Peach; and Best Fundraiser for The Peach’s Pride on the Block partnership with Transpire Help.
For Subculture’s Chris Rhoades, the recognition is rooted in gratitude and responsibility. “It's just an honor to be mentioned truthfully. I'm always grateful to hear we are still warmly thought about by the community,” he said. “It's a privilege to be able to have establishments that are considered by the LGBTQ community as safe spaces. I could only hope that one day ALL spaces will be safe and inviting for all walks of life…. true equality.”
With just 22 businesses, Rhoades says the focus has always been intentional. “We truly take PRIDE in serving our community in South Florida,” he said. That pride is matched with momentum. Subculture Group will soon open Hacienda in downtown West Palm Beach on the 500 block of Clematis. The new venue will feature next level drag shows and may host drag brunches or tea dances on its 3,500-square-foot rooftop bar.
“Stay tuned,” Rhoades teased.
The expansion doesn’t stop there. Hacienda is opening imminently, and Rhoades also hinted at another new concept coming soon. A fresh, “fun hip spot” called Man Ray will open in downtown Lake Worth, taking over the iconic space once home to The Cottage.
With creativity, conscience, and community at the core, Subculture Group continues to prove that great food, art, coffee, and nightlife can also create safer, more welcoming spaces for everyone.
