“Bea Arthur: The Documentary – ‘I’ve done everything except porn’” screens at the Gray Box Theater on Wednesday, Oct. 21, with a Q&A with Bea’s assistant and friend, Dan Watt. The documentary has a never-before-seen interview that Watt did with her at her kitchen table, footage from her one-woman show and interviews with more than 30 people who worked with her or were her friends, including: Chita Rivera, Sheldon Harnick, Rosie O'Donnell, Adrienne Barbeau, Austin Pendleton, Renee Taylor, Bruce Vilanch, and Coco Peru.
The documentary also includes footage from her limited-run one-woman show and showcases Bea's support of the LGBTQ community and her support for and involvement with people with AIDS in the early 1980s, as she recalls a friend who was shunned by his family, whom she visited every day at the VA hospital. Watt visits the Ali Forney Center in NYC where Bea donated $300,000 in her will to buy a building and create a safe place for shunned teens. For more information, go to graybox.theater.
