OUTFAU

Right-wing fanatics wish to silence and erase the LGBTQ community – from our history and culture to everything in between. This is why we launched OutFAU. LGBTQ students need a voice. And we will be that voice.

Misty Alicea has had a relationship with her body image that’s been shaped profoundly by her experiences as a transgender woman. She recalls feeling constrained by societal expectations placed on her at birth, which never aligned with her true self.

It is my belief that the most important part of sex is understanding your own body. Although sex is instinctual, and many have a basic understanding of intercourse, there is so much more to it than just penetration. On top of understanding your body, it is essential to understand the consequences. Sex can be fun and a great way to strengthen a relationship or, in my case, ruin the relationship I have with my own body.

Firstly, it is important that you have some idea of who I am: I am an anarchist Mexican-American transgender woman. Your experiences here at FAU might vary from mine, but I at least want to pass down whatever advice I can after some years at this school. If some of what I say is reminiscent of the things they say at orientation, I apologize and must mention I never attended orientation.
