When FAU officially opened in fall 1964, university life in America was just beginning to step out of the stupors of the Silent Generation of the 1950s. That summer students from northern colleges took part in “Freedom Summer” where hundreds of students traveled south to help register Southern Black people to vote.

Generation Queer?
According to a recently released survey, 28% of Gen Z adults identify as LGBTQ+ compared to 16% of Millennials. Those numbers are a stark contrast to 4% of Baby Boomers and the Silent Generation who identify as such.
Paige Allen used to visit the LGBTQ+ resource center on the second floor of the Student Union, known as the Center for IDEAs. Allen would see Pride flags hanging down the walls, free condoms, resource pamphlets, and the sound of her friends laughing.
R&B artist Tinashe, who is bisexual, is set to perform in Central Florida Friday and Saturday. On Feb. 2 she’ll be in Tampa at The RITZ Ybor at 8 p.m. On Feb. 3 she’ll be in Orlando at Plaza Live at 8 p.m.
