A headliner in South Florida’s drag community, Lupita Hollywood knows a thing or two about being true to herself. Denying her identity for far too long, Hollywood knew when it was time to say enough was enough.
“I was in the closet for 33 years. That was the worst time of my life. Since I accepted my true self, I have been very happy and proud of the person that I am. It no longer matters what others think of me, I know who I really am,” said Hollywood.
Born and raised in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, Hollywood has multiple college degrees, including a bachelor’s in business from the University of Puerto Rico. Talent and hard work have allowed her to be self-employed for the past 25 years as a fashion designer.
“Fashion designing is a very competitive business. Not all of us can be the next Valentino or Versace. My challenge is finding the right customers who appreciate my work,” said Hollywood.
Without question, Hollywood is appreciated for her many talents and commitment to LGBTQ volunteerism.
“Personally, I was honored to be recognized in the Compass Legacy Project and share my life experiences with our younger generation. I realized how my story had a positive impact in our community,” said Hollywood.
To thine own self, be true.
