Aye ye hairy scalawags! Sept. 19 is National Talk Like a Pirate Day, and this year it falls on a Saturday!

Join the Bears for their annual Pirate Pub Crawl, starting at 4:30 p.m. They’ll pillage and plunder five drinking establishments along Wilton Drive until about 8:30 PM. Join the crew for the whole crawl or hop aboard whenever your schedule allows. There will be a prize for the best pirate costume. “Tickets” (you won’t actually get a ticket, but your name will be on the attendee list) are $5 and cover the cost of midvoyage snacks. Go to BOSFL.org to register and get your treasure map with more details, including when they’ll be sailing from bar to bar.

Five, Six, Seven, Eight!

This is your moment to shine as The Arsht Center presents “Singalong Broadway” on Oct. 18. The night will include medleys, solos, Broadway-themed games, comedy, and lots of audience participation. Expect to belt out songs such as "Defying Gravity," "Seasons of Love," "One Day More," and "You Can’t Stop the Beat." Dress up as your favorite Broadway character and get ready for an unforgettable night of music, laughter, and surprises. Go to arshtcenter.org for tickets and more information.

Curtains Up

The Kravis Center will welcome the tours of three big shows as part of the Kravis On Broadway series. “Dirty Dancing: The Musical” will make its West Palm Beach premiere Oct. 28-Nov. 1, followed by “Monty Python’s Spamalot” from Nov. 1015. Then, “Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical” will run during the holidays, Dec. 22-27. Tickets are available at kravis.org, or by calling 561-832-7469.

BITES

So Long, Farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, Goodbye

The restaurant business is a tough one and, unfortunately, these places didn’t make it:

Voodoo Brewing Company in Oakland Park, which opened in April 2025. It never developed much of a following.

Giorgio’s Bistro & Bakery, on Galt Ocean Dr, opened in early 2025, has closed, but the Hollywood location remains open.

Right around the corner from Giorgio’s, Thasos Greek Taverna closed a few months ago. Meat Market Steakhouse in Boca Raton purchased the venue in June and plans to open a branch of the steakhouse there.

Just six months after its grand opening in Feb., Mystic Table in West Palm quietly shuttered. In fact, the grand opening sign still hangs above the front doors.

There are rumors that two restaurants on the North end of the Drive may be closing. One wouldn’t be much of a shock, but the other appeared to be doing quite well.
