Doug Pouncey has a quiet strength about him. It is this strength that has sustained him, fortified him and ultimately, liberated him. Like so many gay men of his generation, he had to live his personal life in the shadows until one day he found the courage to step into the light. And since that time, he has shined.
Pouncey owns and operates the successful Fantasy Island Inn, located just steps off Wilton Drive in Wilton Manors.
“The best part of running a guest house is meeting wonderful people. Many of them have become friends. I also enjoy keeping busy. It’s the perfect fit for me,” said Pouncey.
While his business acumen has served him well, it is his altruism that has served the world. For three years, he participated in the study that resulted in Descovy for PrEP being approved by the FDA. Pouncey is now participating in another PrEP study for the twice-yearly injectable Lenacapavir.
Truly, this innkeeper and volunteer is one of the Island City’s greatest treasures.
“I am thrilled to have been selected as part of OUTSFL Magazine’s Out & Proud class of 2025,” Pouncey said.
