George Lydon knows a thing or two about transformation — by day, he’s a Case Manager at Inspire Recovery, helping queer individuals navigate addiction through evidence-based creative therapies, such as art, writing, and music.
By night, he transforms into Ginger Monroe, a fabulous drag queen known for her spot-on impersonations of Mrs. Doubtfire, captivating audiences everywhere from Pride stages to senior living communities.
Since moving from Boston, Lydon has become a vital part of South Florida’s LGBTQ community, serving as a Board Member for Transpire Help and previously as a founding member of Gay Men’s Chorus Voices of Pride, which dissolved in 2022. Celebrating over two decades of sobriety himself, he’s passionately committed to supporting others on their recovery journeys through his work at Inspire Recovery and Transpire Help.
When asked why he’s so involved, Lydon reflected, “Possibly because I was and I wasn't when I lived in Boston... I grew up at the very end of don't ask, don't tell. In my family, it was don't ask, don't tell... We just didn't talk about it.”
Moving to Florida, he found liberation for himself and others, and now, there’s “no turning back from that.”
