In April 2024, Fidel Garcia joined the Gay Men’s Chorus of South Florida as that group’s Development Manager. Before GMCSF, Garcia was Director of Development and Communication at SAGE Eldercare in Summit, New Jersey.

“I am honored to join the Gay Men's Chorus of South Florida,” said Garcia at the time. “I have long admired the chorus's artistic talent and advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights and visibility. I look forward to working with the incredible team at GMCSF to inspire audiences and build bridges.”

Garcia was recently certified CFRE, Certified Fund-Raising Executive, a professional certification in the field of fundraising administered by CFRE International.

“My role at the Gay Men’s Chorus of South Florida is to steward our mission, our constituents, and our community,” Garcia said. “I interact with board members, staff, singers, donors, and supporters to help them grow their knowledge of the chorus, become more involved in our mission, and benefit from the joy of giving to our cause. My favorite responsibility is hosting receptions for our largest donors and supporters. It is an opportunity to get to know everyone better and deepen our relationships.”

“The gay choral movement began in 1978 with the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus. It grew as LGBTQ+ people sought visibility, community, and a voice during the AIDS crisis. Today, it is a global movement celebrating pride and advocacy. Gay choruses exist to create safe, affirming spaces where LGBTQ+ people can express themselves, build community, and stay visible. In today’s hostile political climate, especially in Florida, the chorus is vital for resilience, pride, and advocacy.”

When not running the Chorus, Garcia is “a son, brother, uncle, friend, and dog dad. Kalhua and Chloe (Yorkshire Terriers) were my first dogs, and I had them for 16 years. I rescued Ricky (Biewer Terrier) in 2021. He moved with me from New Jersey to Florida.”
