Two years ago, a bold voice emerged in South Florida’s queer landscape — and it hasn’t stopped speaking truth to power.
As anti-LGBTQ legislation spreads across the United States and queer content is purged from school libraries, social media platforms, and public institutions, it’s clear: this is not just a culture war. It is a war on visibility. It is a war intended to erase our existence as queer people.
Wilton Manors is a city as vibrant and diverse as the people who call it home.
It is with immense pride and gratitude that I share some incredible news: our beloved Wilton Manors has been named the Most Livable City in Florida!
In a previous letter to the OutSFL editor (December 19, 2024 VOL. 2, Issue 51) regarding the independence of our library, the author stated that the Wilton Manors Library has 115 LGBTQ+ resources.
Are Democrats capable of truly understanding the election results?
As Vice Mayor of Wilton Manors, I want to thank Thomas Paul Severino and the Gazette for highlighting an important conversation about how our city preserves its heritage while making thoughtful fiscal decisions that enhance access to resources for all residents. In light of ongoing budget challenges, I suggested we consider allowing Broward County to take financial responsibility for our cherished Wilton Manors library.
I read the column by Mark Segal of the Philadelphia Gay News posted on Nov. 9 after Donald Trump’s election where he states: “As we have done for the past 55 years since Stonewall, we will continue to stand tall, proud, and ready to wage the good fight. This isn’t new; there have been times when elections in this country directly impacted our lives. Let’s reflect on those moments, the challenges we faced, and how we not only survived but made progress.”
In October, the City Commissioners recently discussed turning the Richard C. Sullivan Public Library of Wilton Manors, our independent municipal Library since 1957, over to the county system.
