When I was young, I was fascinated by gyroscopes, “a device used to maintain orientation and angular velocity.” I didn’t understand then, but I do now. I’m oriented not just to other men, but to kindness, truthfulness, nature, innocence, gratitude, and to the Spirit/Tao/Higher Power.
Ray and I are reviewing films for the local gay film festival. We watch two or three a night, rate them between 1 and 10, and say whether we’d pay to see them. One film we watched recently was “Just Kids,” a documentary on the challenges faced by trans kids and their families.
“Hello. This is Gay Pride month, although I can’t imagine why anyone would be proud to be a homosexual.”
The octagon shapes that moved around like scattered diamonds on the bottom of the pool, had my full attention until my naked husband swam by. Then, Sebastian, our 2-year-old Aussiedoodle, dove in between us. So much beauty.
A scapegoat is a person blamed for the mistake of others. Its source is the Bible.
In the movie “Bent,” a gay man, on his way to a concentration camp, bangs his head against the box car wall saying, “This can’t be happening.”
When I told Ray that I no longer wanted to travel several hours to speak on LGBTQ issues in the workplace, I wondered what might be next. Since then, I’ve written my memoir, and worked in an advisory capacity for two schools in Haiti, and for Human Rights Watch in South Florida.
