The Pride Center at Equality Park celebrates its 30th year at the center. They are the local LGBTQ+ heartbeat of the community whose mission is to “provide a welcoming, safe space, inclusive home, that celebrates, nurtures, and empowers the LGBTQ+ communities and our friends and neighbors in South Florida."

Velvet Lenore hails from Fort Pierce, an award-winning female impersonator and drag queen who has been performing in South Florida for several decades. Earning an impressive amount of awards and titles including Classic Miss Fort Lauderdale in 2015 and Miss Palm Beach Pride in 2016, and now winner of the 2024 Your Choice Award by Out South Florida Newspaper & Magazine.

The emergence of gay leather as a coherent subculture can be traced back to the second half of the 1940s and the 1950s in major cities of the U.S. Later, it also developed in other urban centers in most industrialized capitalist countries. While gay leather developed 20 years after heterosexual European and American fetish styles, it did so relatively isolated from those existing circles and organizations.
