The emergence of gay leather as a coherent subculture can be traced back to the second half of the 1940s and the 1950s in major cities of the U.S. Later, it also developed in other urban centers in most industrialized capitalist countries. While gay leather developed 20 years after heterosexual European and American fetish styles, it did so relatively isolated from those existing circles and organizations.
The bear concept can function as an identity or an affiliation, and there is ongoing debate in bear communities about what constitutes a bear. Some bears place importance on presenting a clear masculine image and may disdain or shun men who exhibit effeminacy, while others consider acceptance and inclusion of all behavioral types to be an important value of the community. And of course for the second year in a row the readers of OutSFL have voted The Eagle as the Best Bar for Bears and Best Leather Bar. And what's not to love about The Eagle in Wilton Manors?
There is never a dull moment. They constantly bring the best and fun filled entertainment and stellar nightclub life for everyone. It's like going "back to the past" the early days of leather, the perfect place to cruise porn-stached daddies, leather clad studs, pups and the fetish men and women of the area.
Every night a different theme, among them: Jockstrap, Code Hanky, Underwear, Cigar, Harness, Let's Have a Kiki. And they continue to change and be imaginative and creative to stay on top of trends and what their guest demand. They feature a Code BAR that is open Friday and Saturdays with music and a safe space to interact with each other, it is a dark masculine space where you might feel the hot piercing stare a gorgeous man from across the room and soon you might be on the way back to his place, unless you started playing with your cell phone again. To get in the Code Bar you must be wearing the proper attire.
