The Pet Project for Pets is a second time winner in the Your Choice Awards for Best Animal Rescue.
It was founded in 2002 to assist pet owners living with HIV and AIDS. As it grew, it expanded its services to include the terminally ill, the elderly and the disabled.
"This is an amazing opportunity knowing that our community loves the work we do. It is an honor to be voted the Best Animal Rescue by the public. Our work helps and save so many," Director Sue Martino said.
The Pet Project is unique because if an individual is financially challenged due to illness, disability or aging the Project makes sure they are able to keep their pets.
"We provide food, supplies, wellness care and reduced cost for medical care. Once a pet is in the program, it is for life," Martino said.
The Project fosters and finds homes for pets suffering from the loss of their human companions. The organization distributes over 7,000 lbs of pet food each month. Martino continued by saying, "We are providing for over 2,000 pets and we appreciate our community for its continued support. It takes a village and we could not do this without you! Thank you."
