They’re known as the gentle giants of the sea that make their way through South Florida’s waterways. Manatees are one of the region’s pride and joys, and spotting one can be an almost spiritual moment.
They’re sexy, muscular, limber, and very friendly. Now they’re coming to South Florida.
Wilton Manors felt like it was in at least four time zones Dec. 31, and when you shouted “Happy New Year!” depended on how long a bar’s satellite feed was delayed. Along Wilton Drive, cheers would rise up from one bar, followed 40 seconds later by cheers in a parking lot. Moments later, another bar started celebrating.
An embarrassment of riches and a dearth of developers. That’s the situation in Wilton Manors.
“They found out there’s a machine. They put a human being inside, and they are compressed while they are alive.”
It’s the end of an era. Bona Italian, a longtime stalwart on Wilton Drive, is closed.
Wilton Manors City Commissioners dealt with a lot of issues at their Nov. 26 meeting. The most visible result will be at one of the city’s parks.
Post-Thanksgiving partiers on Wilton Drive are thankful to be uninjured after a dangerous street takeover. About 12:30 a.m. on Friday, several cars started doing high speed donuts at the intersection of 20th St. and Wilton Drive.
