There’s a new face inside 2020 Wilton Drive, and the city believes she will make an impact. Azita Behmardi is Wilton Manors’ new Asst. City Manager. Her hiring was announced at the Feb. 25 City Commission meeting.

She brings a breadth of experience, having worked decades in Broward County and South Florida. Behmardi served most recently Deputy Director of Development Services for Hollywood.

Behmardi also ran her own consulting company for 20 years, which included work on parks and road projects in Wilton Manors. “That’s where I fell in love with the city,” she said.

“Her expertise will be invaluable to the city as we are moving forward with implementing millions of dollars in utility master plan and transportation master plan projects,” City Manager Leigh Ann Henderson said.

Behmardi replaces Pamela Landi who will leave at the end of March after nine years in Wilton Manors.

Women’s History Month Honorees Announced

The city is recognizing Women's History Month by honoring four women who make outstanding contributions to our community. The Community Affairs Advisory Board (CAAB) presented three nominees, and a fourth was suggested by Commissioner Don D’Arminio.

He nominated Kristen Browde, a longtime lawyer and political activist. In the last election cycle, she became the first trans person to lead the Florida LGBTQ+ Democratic Caucus, and was instrumental in setting up the Get Out the Vote Center on Wilton Drive.

“I would like to thank Kristen for her work and advocacy,” D’Arminio said while nominating Browde.

She is honored along with Rebecca Bradley, founder of landscape architecture firm Cadence, Susan Gritz, SunServe’s Director of Clinical Supervision and Education, and Wilton Manors’ Director of Community Development Services Roberta Moore.
