A local softball league brought home four trophies from the Gay Softball World Series in Las Vegas.
Teams with the South Florida Amateur Athletic Association (SFAAA) competed alongside almost 200 groups in this year’s event.
“I’m very proud of our league that continues to compete on a national level and represent our community on and off the field,” SFAAA commissioner Rocky Bowell said. “Congrats to all the teams that placed.”
SFAAA sent 14 teams to the tournament. The Silverhawks took first place in the Legends D Division and Glitterati took third place in the Open E Division.
Hunters Hurricanes claimed fourth place in the Open D Division, and Alive and Kicking took fourth in the Legends C Division. Five other local teams finished in the top 10.
SFAAA is celebrating its 30th anniversary season and will host its Hurricane Showdown on Thanksgiving weekend. Almost 60 teams will compete at Mills Pond Park, Tradewinds and Brian Piccolo Park for this year’s event.
After that, the league will resume play in January with Thursday night softball that precedes the spring 2025 season starting in late February on Sundays.
