Teresa Albernas has a few job titles. She is a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner where she works with Be Fehr Counseling and Mayfaire Medical for a year now. She also has an administrative role at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where she reviews medical records and coordinates care for Jackson charity patients. She has worked at Jackson for nine years.
“I genuinely love helping people reach their full potential, and sometimes, medications can be a valuable part of that journey,” she said. “I’m passionate about educating people about their diagnoses and always encourage them to be part of the decision-making process when it comes to their goals. Seeing a person who was impaired because of their mental health and is now able to function and is enjoying life again is a special rewarding aspect of my job.”
She works with the LGBTQ community as well.
“The majority of my patients are part of the LGBTQ community, and they constantly tell me stories of how judgmental other providers have been. Some have even experienced traumatic episodes from providers, and it has left them not wanting to continue seeking help. I feel that by offering very necessary services to my patients and truly listening to them, I am making [a] positive impact.”
