As Vice President of Unity Coalition, John O. Buckley is recognized for bringing enthusiasm to an organization that promotes equality and fairness for Hispanic, Indigenous and of Color LGBTQ communities in Miami and Colombia.
”John is a positive and inspiring soul that I have been proud to watch grow into a responsible and respected community leader,” said Herb Sosa, who founded Unity Coalition in 2002 and serves as its president and CEO.
In terms of success, Buckley’s professional career mirrors his activism. He is a senior client advisor for luxury luggage brand Rimowa.
“I see volunteering as more than just a passion project, in my case, I am fortunate to have a full-time career that takes care of my lifestyle so I do my best to show up for our community and make a difference by being an advocate for our rights, inclusion and diversity,” he said.
At UC, Buckley serves as director of CAOBA, an empowerment program for same gender loving people of color. An alarming 77.3% of Black LGBTQ Southerners, the group noted, have been attacked because of their sexual orientation.
“In today’s political climate, it is vital we stand in solidarity and show we will not be erased,” Buckley said.
Buckley, 40, enjoys design, architecture, food and traveling.
