As a political strategist, Christian Ulvert is often called upon to build public support and deliver decisive victories.
Beating the odds is even more sweet.
“The races I enjoy the most are the ones where we’re the underdog and people are saying it’s impossible,” he said.
In 2008, after graduating from Florida State University with a Master’s in public administration and policy, Ulvert moved to Miami and started his own company, Edge Communications. That was also the year Ulvert came out, a life event that helped shape who he is today.
Sharing those moments, Ulvert said, is an important step in winning over neutral parties.
“We have to tell our story of who we are as people and not labels” he said. “That’s politics 101. You can’t go into an election being defined by your opponent. You have to define yourself.”
Today, Edge Communications has a staff of 12 and represents more than 25 elected officials, including Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. Democrats, Ulvert said, won’t be down forever.
“You have to power through challenges,” he said. “Pendulums swing.”
Ulvert, 43, is married to Carlos Andrade. The couple resides in Miami Shores.
