Abbott Rivera is dedicated to cultivating compassion and understanding. As a Development Associate at Compass, he leads engaging Cultural Competency trainings, helping business owners and community members better support LGBTQ individuals. January 2026 will mark his third year in this impactful role — a journey that began years ago during his time as a Compass Youth.
As a proud trans man navigating an increasingly challenging environment, Rivera passionately educates others about gender identity and expression through Compass's signature “LGBTQ+ 101” workshops. His engaging three-hour sessions creatively explore gender and sexuality through relatable themes found in nature. After co-facilitating these transformative trainings for over a year, Rivera stepped confidently into the lead facilitator role in February.
When asked about his impact, Rivera said, “I like to think of myself that can see anyone on any level and meet them and introduce concepts to them. I’m not here to see the tree sprout, I’m here to plant the seed.”
Through his commitment, Rivera continues planting seeds of awareness and acceptance across South Florida.
