Q-Mitch Jones is a true showman who loves bingo and has a big heart.
His weekly drag bingo is a huge hit, and he’s known around town for his beard and ballgowns.
“Key West chose me,” he recalled about how he ended up on the island in 2006. “I answered a random email from Key West.” Next thing he knew, “I’m moving.”
In 2010, he launched the weekly bingo show at 801 Bourbon Bar. Now, you can find him every Sunday at 5 p.m. at 22&CO. The tagline is, “It’s for charity, bitches.” That’s an understatement — he’s raised over a million dollars for nonprofits over the years.
He describes Q-Mitch as “a giving, caring, loving character who loves bingo.” Besides just hosting, he also regularly makes costumes for his weekly gig.
“I’m proud as a deadly sin, every day in every way,” he said. “If you can’t be you, it starts wearing on your soul.” He’s been with his husband for 17 years.
He has had a long career in aviation since 1989, starting in North Carolina. Now he works at the Key West airport.
Over the years, he’s raised boatloads of cash for charities. Some of his favorites include the Florida Keys SPCA, Samuel's House, Literacy Volunteers of America, Anchors Aweigh Club Key West, Wesley House Family Services, Cooking With Love, Queer Keys, the American Legion, the Xena Fund, and the Sister Season Fund.
Outside of work and bingo, he loves to travel, saying it’s “close to my heart. I wish I could do more, but after 30 years in the travel industry, I’ve been there.”
