Kal Gajraj is a firm believer that diversity makes us stronger.
“Diversity is critical to our understanding and respect for all people,” Gajraj said. “Without diverse people, thoughts and ideas, it is impossible for us to create a more inclusive, equitable and thriving world.”
Gajraj’s family emigrated from Guyana, a former British colony on the northern coast of South America. His parents, conservative Muslims, were shocked when he came out at 19.
“They were like, ‘What did we do wrong?’,” Gajraj recalled. “It was a cultural divide and I had to explain to them, you didn’t do anything wrong, this is who I am and they have been extremely loving and supportive ever since.”
Highly educated with a PhD in Ethical Leadership, Gajraj specializes in effective communication and branding. He lends his expertise to the U.S. Institute of Diplomacy and Human Rights, University of South Florida and Miami-Dade College’s School of Global Business.
Gajraj has an impressive resume, including a four-year run as Chief Marketing Officer at the Florida Grand Opera, the oldest performing arts organization in Florida. He was recently hired as Senior Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer at CAN Community Health, an organization, he said, that is devoted to inclusive healthcare for underserved populations.
A bachelor, Gajraj, 42, lives in Plantation.
