Before he became SunServe’s Vice President of Programs, Alex Spriggs' career took him from Australia to Japan and, finally, South Florida.
“It wasn’t until I arrived in the United States in 2014 and began working for Tony Lima as a volunteer at SAVE that I really became involved in the LGBTQ+ community,” Spriggs said.
Spriggs eventually joined Lima’s team, focusing on events and later becoming Chief of Staff. After leaving SAVE in 2019, he said he was fortunate to work at Arianna’s Center.
“It gave me an incredible insight into the needs of South Florida’s transgender community and is an experience I’m very grateful for,” Spriggs said.
Spriggs is now working with Lima again at SunServe. He feels fortunate to collaborate with a team of committed professionals.
“Whether it’s our Youth and Family Center, Transgender Services, Housing Case Management, or Senior Services, I see it as my responsibility to help provide our team with the resources they need to deliver critical services to our community and often I’m a sounding board for their new ideas and initiatives,” Spriggs said.
Looking ahead, Spriggs aims to leverage SunServe's position to support smaller organizations that often receive insufficient resources. He also wants to continue traveling.
“Personally, I want to keep exploring the world,” Spriggs said. “It’s impossible to not be changed by travel. It broadens your outlook, creates empathy, and provides perspective.”
Spriggs says he is happiest when he’s behind the scenes.
