Norby Belz is a political newcomer who now has experience running a campaign. He didn’t win, but he established himself with his constituency.

Belz, who is gay, was running for Fort Lauderdale City Commission in District 1. He finished second with 44% of the vote. Incumbent John C. Herbst was reelected with 56%.

This was Belz’s first campaign. His run was fueled, in part, to make sure LGBTQ people from District 1 are represented.
