Kataleya Davenport knows the importance of self-love and self-care. She learned a lot from her birth mother and her drag mother, Kennedy Davenport.
“She inspired me to be myself and find my own talent, on and offstage,” Davenport says. “She also taught me the importance of family.”
Davenport also lists Melissa St. John, Velvet Lenore, and Misty Eyez as inspirations.
Davenport has participated in pageants for more than a decade. But for the OutSFL Pageant, she switched things up a bit — designing her own gowns and trading her usual dance number for a Whitney Houston Ballad. “My strength for this pageant was me being me,” she says.
You can catch Davenport performing at The Pub, Alibi, and The Well these days. Her favorite entertainers are a who’s who of R&B singers, including Aretha Franklin, Patti LaBelle, Chaka Khan, Donna Summer, and Gladys Knight.
When she’s not gracing local stages, Davenport is a makeup artist and massage therapist. She lives with her fiancée and their two dogs. When she’s not working, she enjoys going to amusement parks and playing pool — “just normal things,” she says.
