As we approach the height of storm season, concerns about sewage overflow begin to surface. But high-volume spikes are just one worry. The city’s underground infrastructure needs millions of dollars in work.
During the Wilton Manors city commission meeting on June 24, the city’s Utilities Director, Alan Dodd, updated the situation.
The I&I (Inflow & Infiltration) covers what gets into sewer lines and where it comes from. Infiltration includes defective pipes, manhole cracks, pipe joints, and defects in laterals. Inflow is water (excluding wastewater) from yard drains, manhole covers, downspouts, drainage, storm sewer cross connections, and stormwater surface runoff.
The city is using grants to fund much of the lining repair work at wastewater lift stations and the NE 26th. gravity main. Ten projects listed in the report total about $16.2 million.

Departing members are George Defrance, Charles Higgins, and Dylan Salem.
