A new look, a new name. Forty months after the devastating flood that dumped 27 inches of rain on Broward County in one day and did billions in damage, Broward House is celebrating a remarkable recovery.
Their assisted living facility south of downtown Fort Lauderdale was officially rededicated and renamed during a joyous celebration. A plaque unveiling and ribbon cutting announced the name of Warten Hall. The Warten Foundation made two huge donations to help Broward House recover.
The task was enormous, and started before the water began to recede.
“A lot of our team was here that night,” executive director Nicole Burrell said. “They knew what we do is help people. The building needed help that day.”
The interior was taken down to studs and built out. Floors, doors, walls, and more all needed to be replaced. The total ran into the millions. But for The Warten Foundation, the work would still be far from finished.
The silver lining is that the building got a long overdue refresh. Broward House had long upgrades and improvements in order to get top quality care to clients. Now it carries that “new building smell” of fresh paint, new floors, and other amenities.
Now Broward House can look ahead to its next milestone: its 40th anniversary in 2028.
