Rebekah Faubion has always been intrigued by stories where characters, who don't know each other, team up to accomplish a goal while also falling in love, and that's how "The Sun and the Moon" came to be.
What was your inspiration behind your most recent book?
I have always been intrigued by stories where characters who didn’t previously know each other team up on a shared goal and wind up falling in love. I also really wanted to explore what it would be Iike to have a mom who was this “all-knowing” psychic figure, but who really didn’t understand her own daughter.
What does Reading Rainbow mean to you?
I love reading bisexual stories because it’s my identity, and it’s an incredible feeling to get that representation on the page. But beyond that, I love reading stories that celebrate the queer identity across the spectrum. There is something profoundly joyful about queer books having a place on the shelf!
Why do you feel representation of a variety of people is so important when it comes to writing books?
Because the world is diverse and every person deserves to see themselves as the main character.
Tell us a little more about the book and why you decided to write it.
This book is a love story to California. I really cherished getting to describe the state I love in such rich detail. It’s a perfect summer read IMO.
What can fans expect from your book?
Messy, complex women falling in love. A cute and silly old dog named Chicken. Dreamy settings. A lot of emotional healing.
What's up next for you in the bookish world?
I have a young adult speculative thriller releasing in January called "Lost Girls of Hollow Lake!" It’s perfect for fans of Yellowjackets. And my next adult release is a genre-blending horror novel called "What a Nightmare" that releases fall 2026!
