It is March, and unless you live under a rock, you know that this month is Palm Beach Pride month.
Pride month is our excuse to wave our rainbow flag and be loud as Hell, and Palm Beach has several gay bars for you to visit. Whether you are a local looking for fun or visiting the city trying to get a unique experience, there’s a little something for everyone.
History has proven that H.G. Roosters is one of the most important pieces to the gay fabric here in Palm Beach since the early 80s. Each week, they have a weekly bingo night and one of the only lip sync competitions in Palm Beach County, period.
Mad Hatter is known as one of the friendliest bars in Palm Beach. Their welcoming atmosphere typically features long-time locals or curious out-of-towners. In the mood for a pool game or good drink specials (maybe even a much-needed Sunday during leather night)? Mad Hatter is definitely the place for you.
These bars are not just known for serving drinks; they also are award-winning establishments. Mad Hatter bartender Penny Johnson recently won Best Bartender for OutSFL’s Your Choice Awards awards. If that wasn’t impressive enough, the bar itself won the award for "Best Chili" at the 10th annual Gay Chili cook-off.
H.G. Roosters was awarded "Best Bar," "Best Gay Bar" and "Best Burger" by the Sun Sentinel, which is an award voted by readers from Miami to Palm Beach.
So, no plan for next weekend? Go support your local Pride at Bryant Park in Lake Worth Beach, presented by Compass Community Center, on March 28-29. Afterward, stop by and patronize these bars because the after-parties will be the icing on the cake after partying in the park all day. Who knows, you might even find a hidden gem or even a brand-new spot to reclaim and live out your Pride all year.
