Maybe you were student government president in high school. Maybe you spent lunch crying in the bathroom. Maybe you were both (hi, me too).
Either way, starting college can feel like being dropped into Oz with no map. You’re supposed to find your people, your purpose, and your place, all while figuring out where General Parking actually is.
Here’s the good news: FAU has over 300 student organizations. And no matter what weird, wonderful, or wicked thing you’re into, there’s probably a community waiting for you.
The trick is knowing where to look.
Start with Campus Labs, FAU’s student organization portal. You can browse every registered club, check out meeting times, find contact information, and see upcoming events. Filter by category, such as academic, cultural, service-based, and more. Each organization has a page with its mission, contact information, and a link to join directly.
Some of my favorite finds:
- Lavender Alliance: An LGBTQ+ student organization.
- BLISSS: BIPOC LGBTQIA+ Individuals Seeking Safe Spaces.
- And of course, OutFAU!
If nothing speaks to you? Start your own club. Seriously — all you need is three students and a faculty advisor.
College isn’t just about lectures and essays. It’s about figuring out who you are outside the classroom: what you care about, who you want to become, and who you want by your side.
So no, you’re not “that girl” anymore —the one who blends in, tones it down, or waits to be invited.
You’re this girl. This club. This community.
Now go claim it.
