Bree-Anna Obst is the managing director at Thinking Cap Theatre, a nonprofit professional theater company focused on insightful and socially aware productions.

"The type of work that Thinking Cap Theatre produces has been ingrained in our mission since the very beginning, 14 years ago.  We are committed to staging thought-provoking, socially conscious theatre that reflects the diversity of our South Florida community," Obst said.

Obst mentioned that the organization has maintained approximately 50/50 equity over the past 14 years, with an equal split of plays by female and male playwrights, and some by nonbinary playwrights. Additionally, nearly 50% of the plays produced have been LGBTQ themed or created by LGBTQ playwrights. The organization is also involved in community outreach.

“We just completed a program called ‘The Importance of Being Me,’ which was a nationwide LGBTQ youth arts program, performing arts and visual arts, where kids from all over the country submit and perform artwork,” Obst said.

Obst is also the Director of Performing Arts at Miami Children's Museum.

“It’s very rare to find a children's museum across the country that has a dedicated in-house theater ensemble that is dedicated to making arts for the kids, and with the kids, we use the kids to help make the shows, like doing workshops with them,” Obst said. “And they're generating from their ideas and so forth to help make the shows that we use outside and then perform for them. So very much a child-centered process to the creative process.”

Originally from Australia, Obst has lived in the United States for over a decade. She works with her partner Nicole Stodard, the producing artistic director at Thinking Cap Theatre. They have three children.
