Alison Burgos and Michelle Alexis Gaber are not a lesbian power couple. They are a hands down power couple in the truest sense of the phrase, no qualifiers needed. Their impact on South Florida’s LGBTQ community, and especially the lesbian community, is immeasurable.
“My passion for community and creating safe space activism started 25 years ago,” Burgos said. “I can’t believe it. Time has flown!”
They are the driving force behind Pandora Events, co-founded Aqua Foundation for Women, Seed Food & Wine Festival, and Girls In Wonderland. Their dedication to all the letters in LGBTQ is on display in every aspect of their lives. To quote Cyndi Lauper, girls just wanna have fun.
“We’ve always partied with a purpose. Our commitment to creating fun, sexy events that are a safe space for people to be their authentic selves. Also inspiring people to be part of the community.”
They are involved in fighting for LGBTQ rights on a political level. They’ve been doing voter registrations and working with various LGBTQ organizations. Their political activism will be pushed to the limits through the November election, and they are both ready for the challenge.
“I am knocking on doors, phone banking. I’m going to be actively involved in the Kamala Harris campaign and doing everything I can up and down the ballot,” Burgos said.
But their legacy may be helping others create their own legacies. It’s their personal touches that may be the most impactful of all their accomplishments.
“I’ve gotten to be part of people meeting their girlfriend, their new best friend, their wife while creating special memories and hopefully educating people in a fun way.”
