Taking care of the community is a big, often thankless job. With so many struggling to get through day to day, it’s hard to make time for others. But South Florida is filled with selfless people who give their time, talent, and money to keep our community surviving and thriving.
The Our Fund Foundation recognized five such people during the seventh annual South Florida LGBTQ Philanthropy Awards held at the Broward Center.
“We are proud to celebrate these exceptional leaders whose generosity and vision continue to transform our community,” said David Jobin, CEO of Our Fund Foundation. “They embody our mission to advance philanthropy and help make South Florida the nation’s most vibrant and welcoming place for LGBTQ individuals.”
Our Fund has long worked to help fund the health and culture of the LGBTQ community. This group helps both behind and in front of the scenes through leadership, philanthropy, and volunteerism.
Don Croxton, Russell Vance and Peter Zimmer are Philanthropists of the Year for their lifelong support and commitment to the LGBTQ community, commitments that have only deepened as time went on. Their impact will be felt for years to come.
Karen Kelley was honored with the Commitment to A Cause award, notably for her work as board chair for the Stonewall Museum. She has shepherded exhibits and community-engagement efforts including a recreation of the original Stonewall Inn riot site with actual Stonewall uprising participants.
Jonathan Sanz has a big voice and an even bigger heart. He received the Next Generation Philanthropy Award. Sanz is President of the Gay Men’s Chorus of South Florida. Beyond lending his voice to performances, he works to expand the group’s reach, impact, and community engagement.
