A consummate performer, Angie Ovahness Pryce has put her glamorous stamp on the art of drag. Her megawatt dance numbers routinely bring audiences to their feet.

As the winner of this year’s Marsha P. Johnson award, voted upon by the contestants in the Mizz OUTSFL Pageant, Pryce now follows in the footsteps of a true LGBTQ icon. Having been on the frontlines of the Stonewall uprising, Johnson is without question a framer of the gay rights movement. An LGBTQ and HIV/AIDS activist, she was a founding member of the Gay Liberation Front, a member of ACT UP, and a co-founder of the Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries renamed as the Strategic Transgender Alliance for Radical Reform.

Additionally, Johnson was a self-identified drag queen. She once said: "I was no one, nobody, from Nowheresville until I became a drag queen. That's what made me in New York, that's what made me in New Jersey, that's what made me in the world."

“It’s really an honor to receive the award,” Pryce said. “This recognition embodies everything that I am aiming to be in the community.”

Pryce was part of an extremely competitive field in this year’s pageant and speaks highly of the event.

“Hats off for just coming up with such a unique and different idea to pay homage to those who do not get the recognition that they deserve,” said Pryce.

Pryce does not consider volunteering as work, but rather the heartfelt opportunity to reach out on behalf of others.

“I want to help to find ways to protect the community and speak for those who do not have the voice to speak for themselves."

Well-versed in the various public services available to individuals with limited personal resources, Pryce readily shares her knowledge with interested parties. She is an ardent supporter of Dade County’s The McKenzie Project and Transinclusive. The organization strives to uplift Black transgender and non-binary individuals ages 15 and up, throughout Miami-Dade and Broward County, especially those who are experiencing homelessness, engaging in survival sex work, or living with HIV through creative arts and entrepreneurship studies.
