A few weeks ago, Sharma and I were invited to experience Havana 1957, and from the second we walked in, we knew this wasn’t going to be a quick dinner.

The Pembroke Pines location has that lively, unmistakable energy, with music playing, tables full, servers moving quickly, and that constant buzz that makes you want to settle in and stay awhile. It felt polished but still relaxed, which is exactly the balance you want for a night out like this.

We started, of course, with mojitos. And I’m glad we did, because they set the tone immediately. Refreshing, citrus-forward, not overly sweet, and just clean, crisp, and exactly what you want when you’re settling in for a full meal. They’re the kind of drink you don’t overthink; you just keep ordering.

The menu is extensive without feeling overwhelming, and it really leans into traditional Cuban comfort food. You’ll find everything from appetizers and sandwiches to full plates of meats, seafood, and poultry, all built around those classic sides, like rice, beans, yuca and plantains.

There are options like fried pork chunks topped with mojo, braised flank steak in criolla sauce, thin griddled Cuban steak with onions, and even a full Cuban sampler if you want a little bit of everything. It’s the kind of menu where you can go all in on a hearty dinner or mix and match depending on your mood.

For me, the ropa vieja is always the test, and it delivered. The shredded flank steak in criolla sauce was rich and savory without feeling too heavy, paired perfectly with rice and beans. It’s one of those dishes that feels comforting and familiar, and when it’s done right, it really stands out.

We also spent some time with the roasted pork, which is slow-cooked, tender, and topped with that signature Cuban mojo. It comes with moro rice and boiled yuca, and it’s exactly the kind of plate you expect here, which is simple, flavorful, and satisfying without trying too hard.

Those who want to try a bit of everything can try out the Cuban sampler, which includes chicken, ropa vieja, roasted pork, with rice, black beans, and sweet plantains. It’s honestly the easiest way to try a little bit of everything, especially if you’re sharing.

Between the food, the drinks, and just catching up, the night turned into one of those easy, happy evenings where time moves faster than you expect.

The music kept going, the mojitos kept coming, and every table around us seemed to be having the same kind of night.

While we visited the Pembroke Pines location, Havana 1957 also has other locations, including Miami Beach and Las Vegas, so it’s easy to find if you’re nearby, or traveling.

It’s not trying to be trendy. It’s not overcomplicated. It’s just a fun, reliable spot with great flavors and a lively atmosphere that makes you want to stay a little longer.
