In 1987, I visited the island of Hawaii for the very first time. My mother and I decided to join other family members on the vacation of a lifetime. Hawaii had always been my mother’s dream vacation, so she was eager to go. Being 7 years old at the time, I don’t remember much about that trip with a few exceptions. One notably was having to wrap a hula skirt around my neck because I was too short for it to go around my waist.
When I was invited to experience a one-day trip to the Exuma Cays at the Bahamas, not only was I very excited to see another side of the area, but I was very eager to experience a one-day experience with Makers Air.
There’s nothing more enjoyable than a relaxing staycation. At times, leaving the stressors of your everyday life and responsibilities behind is the best way to reconnect with yourself and your peace.
Here it is, 2024! Currently, many of us begin making plans for future travel. And, while hopping on a plane and going somewhere outside of Florida might be in the plans, there’s nothing more fun than also planning some local staycations in Florida.
If you have not decided what to give that special someone for the holidays, we completely understand. Sometimes it seems like they have it all. Second, it might be terrifying to step into a mall last-minute. And it seems like the holidays simply stress us out, and shopping becomes a last-minute priority. Or maybe that online gift won’t arrive on time. Sigh.
LGBT travelers are visiting Colombia more often and it is no wonder. Colombia is a country that embraces diversity. Same-sex marriage is legal, adoption for same-sex couples is permitted, people can also change their gender in all their identity documents as well as get a sex reassignment surgery through the public universal health system, and nationwide anti-discrimination laws protect the LGBT population. Moreover, the Colombian national police have been certified as an LGBT-friendly organization. As a result, Colombia was considered the “Leading LGBTQ+ Destination in South America” in 2018, by the World Travel Awards.
I suppose it was only a matter of time. There are cruises dedicated to music lovers of all genres: country, heavy metal, Broadway (Seth Rudetsky’s cruises are supposed to be fabulous), ‘50s, ‘60s, and ‘70s (my husband and I went on the Disco Cruise, twice!).
Having grown up in Kansas, in the middle of the United States, I’ve always longed to see more than the flat, flyover states that are the Midwest.
It’s January, 2023. My son (FTM) sends me a text — just an aside in the middle of a conversation about movies or philosophy or something: “Also!! Top surgery on June 27.”
My son (FTM) has been transitioning for several years and completely passes as male. His HRT treatments started before Gov. Greg Abbott and the Republicans scared off or shut down a lot of gender-affirming clinics and have continued in the gray area where they can continue treatment but not take on new patients. My son still had begun developing breast tissue prior to starting HRT and so has been binding for years.
