Bold, joyful, and unapologetically modern, "& Juliet" takes one of literature’s most familiar tragedies and turns it into a glittering celebration of self-discovery.
Fueled by chart-topping pop anthems and a fresh, feminist lens, the show asks a revolutionary question: What if Juliet chose to live? What follows is a high-energy, feel-good theatrical experience filled with humor, heart, and reinvention.
Joining the North American tour is Nico Ochoa (they/them), who portrays May, Juliet’s fiercely loyal best friend. The role brings warmth, wit, and meaningful representation to the stage, adding depth to a story centered on agency, identity, and chosen family.
Raised in St. Louis and trained in musical theatre at Baldwin Wallace University, Nico’s career spans Broadway, national tours, and screen appearances, but "& Juliet" offers a particularly powerful opportunity to connect with audiences in a story that celebrates authenticity without apology.
Ahead of the show’s Miami performances, Nico shared their excitement about the city, their connection to the character, and what audiences can expect when the curtain rises.
What are you most looking forward to about performing in Miami?
Miami audiences bring such an incredible energy. There’s a real sense of celebration and openness here, and I’m excited to feel that connection, that moment where the audience and performers meet each other halfway and just have fun together.
How does playing May resonate with you personally?
May feels honest and deeply grounded. They show up fully for the people they love and aren’t afraid to exist as they are. Playing someone with that kind of authenticity is incredibly affirming, especially in a story that’s all about choosing yourself.
What does it mean to represent a character like May, and what should audiences expect from the show overall?
Representation matters, especially when it’s joyful and multidimensional. Being part of a show that celebrates identity without apology is something I’m proud of. Audiences can expect huge music, nonstop energy, and moments that genuinely move you. It’s fun, uplifting, and full of heart.
"& Juliet" will be presented at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in from December 30 to January 4, 2026. To purchase tickets and for more information, visit arshtcenter.org/tickets/2025-2026/broadway-in-miami/juliet/.
