Three Trailblazers honored by Stonewall at Gala
Stonewall National Museum, Archives and Library will induct retired Congressman Barney Frank, Grammy-winning musician Janis Ian, and philanthropist Jon Stryker into its nationally traveling exhibit, “Standing on the Shoulders of Heroes.” The trio will be honored at its gala at The Venue on Saturday, Feb. 21.
Jon Stryker, Founder, Arcus Foundation, has contributed more than $700 million dollars to critical social and environmental justice causes around the globe, as well as more than $300 million to LGBTQ organizations. Best known for her ‘60s and ‘70s hits "Society’s Child" and "At Seventeen," Grammy-winning Janis Ian’s timeless hits sparked controversy for their unflinching commentary and criticism of American culture. Ian was one of Saturday Night Live’s first musical guests. In 1987, Former Congressman Barney Frank publicly came out as gay, becoming the first member of Congress to do so voluntarily, and in 2012 was the first member of Congress to marry a person of the same sex while in office. Frank served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Massachusetts from 1981 to 2013, serving as chairman of the House Financial Services Committee and a leading co-sponsor of the 2010 Dodd–Frank Act.
