Why is Los Cabos considered a welcoming destination for the LGBTQ+ community?

True inclusivity cannot be manufactured by marketing. It's a reflection of a destination's social fabric. Los Cabos is considered welcoming because our tourism industry builds upon a foundation laid by local organizations that have championed LGBTQ+ rights for decades. Celebrating the 21st anniversary of the Los Cabos Pride March this year highlights a legacy of visibility and advocacy that has helped shape the destination we know today.

Today, approximately 20% of our visitors identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community, making inclusivity a year-round commitment rooted in our local reality. To support that ecosystem, the Los Cabos Tourism Board secured the Queer Destinations Committed accreditation in 2022 to help establish an institutional framework for inclusive hospitality across the destination. As a proud member of IGLTA, we also continue to align with global best practices and connect our local tourism community with resources, education, and industry insights.

Our approach is focused on equipping our local value chain, including hotels, restaurants, DMCs, tour operators, and other tourism partners, with the tools they need to create welcoming experiences for all travelers. By working alongside organizations like Codisex on sensitivity and inclusion training, and TransBCS, a Baja California Sur-based organization that advocates for the transgender community, we help ensure the visitor experience reflects the welcoming and respectful atmosphere our local community has worked hard to build.

Which Pride Month event or activity in Los Cabos sounds the most interesting to you, and why?

The Pride March is always incredibly special because it stands as a highly visible and authentic celebration of our community. This year marks the 21st annual march, and seeing thousands of people come together under the theme "Unity That Resists, Love That Liberates" is a powerful reminder of how far the destination has come.

That said, what I personally love most is that Pride in Los Cabos isn't just one event. Throughout June, you'll find drag performances, special dining experiences, DJ sets, wellness activities, nightlife events, and even adventure experiences. One night you can be at a drag show in Cabo San Lucas, and the next you can be attending a Pride-themed dinner or dancing to DJs from Mexico City and Puerto Vallarta in San José del Cabo. The entire destination gets involved, which creates a really welcoming atmosphere and gives visitors many different ways to celebrate.

What are two places visitors can enjoy food, drinks, or entertainment during Pride Month in Los Cabos?

Ligaya in San José del Cabo is probably one of the most exciting new additions this year. They put together an entire week of Pride programming, including performances from drag artist Mia Star from RuPaul's Drag Race, tribute shows, and queer DJs from across Mexico. It's become a really fun gathering place during Pride.

I'd also recommend Don Sánchez, which is taking a more artistic approach. They're partnering with guest chefs and local artists to create a Pride-inspired culinary experience that combines food, music, storytelling, and visual art. I love seeing that because it shows Pride can be celebrated in different ways depending on what kind of experience you're looking for.

How do hotels and businesses in Los Cabos participate in Pride Month celebrations?

One of the things I'm most proud of is how many different sectors participate. It's not just hotels or nightlife venues. You'll see restaurants creating special menus, bars hosting events, transportation companies participating, tour operators getting involved, and attractions developing unique experiences.

Through our "Los Cabos Celebrates You" initiative, partners across the destination come together to create a month-long celebration. This year that includes everything from Pride-themed entertainment and hotel programming to drag performances, art installations, culinary experiences, and even a nighttime Pride ziplining event at Wild Canyon.
What's especially encouraging is that many of these businesses aren't just showing up for one month. They've invested in LGBTQ+ hospitality training, inclusion programs, and community partnerships throughout the year.

Why do you think it is important for travel destinations to promote diversity, inclusion, and acceptance?

As we look at the global landscape today, we have to acknowledge that there are still many places around the world where members of the LGBTQ+ community face discrimination or barriers to simply being themselves. Because of that, safety is not a luxury or a secondary consideration for LGBTQ+ travelers. It is the foundation.
Before a traveler thinks about hotels, restaurants, or activities, they need to know they will be safe, respected, and genuinely welcomed. Travel should be about discovering new places, connecting with people, and creating meaningful experiences. It's difficult to do that if you're worried about whether you'll be accepted.

That's why destinations have an important responsibility to actively cultivate environments of inclusion. Beyond being the right thing to do, it's also good hospitality. When travelers feel comfortable being themselves, they connect more deeply with a destination, support local businesses, and build lasting relationships that often bring them back again and again.

In Los Cabos, this philosophy is directly connected to our "Los Cabos Your Way" brand platform. Every traveler is different, and everyone travels for different reasons. Our goal is to ensure visitors can create the experience that feels most authentic to them, while knowing the foundation of safety, respect, and welcome remains constant throughout their journey.
