Jonathan Hawkins, well known in LGBTQ entertainment circles from Wilton Manors to Provincetown, has been arrested on drug charges, including felony methamphetamine trafficking.

Hawkins was arrested in Massachusetts in the early morning hours of July 15 during a traffic stop. Police say they found approximately 77 grams of methamphetamine and 17 varieties of pills.

He also faces 15 misdemeanor counts of drug possession and two motor vehicle charges.

According to the Provincetown Independent, a spokesperson for Hawkins’ nonprofit, Prouder Together, said, “The case remains pending, and the allegations contained in the police report have not been proven in court. Jonathan intends to address this matter through the legal process.”

Hawkins pleaded not guilty and was released July 16 after posting $15,000 cash bail.

Police say Hawkins was pulled over after an officer noticed his vehicle’s inspection was expired. According to the police report, the officer saw Hawkins reaching underneath the driver’s seat as he was getting out of the car, leading to a search of the vehicle.

Hawkins and his nonprofit, Prouder Together, produce Pride-themed events and have been involved in several South Florida productions. Until March, Hawkins was also a co-owner of the Crown & Anchor entertainment complex in Provincetown.

His next court hearing is scheduled for Sept. 14.
