The Broadway in Miami season at Miami’s Arsht Center kicks off in December with five shows.
The season opens Dec. 5 – 10 with the stage adaptation of the ultimate 1990s fairy tale, “Pretty Woman: The Musical.” The production was created by two-time Tony Award-winning director and choreographer Jerry Mitchell (“Hairspray,” “Kinky Boots,” “Legally Blonde”) and features an original score by Grammy winner Bryan Adams and book by Garry Marshall and screenwriter J.F. Lawton.
“The Cher Show,” the life story of – you guessed – Cher, makes its South Florida premiere Jan. 2 – 7, 2024. The Tony Award-winning production is packed with so much “Cher” that it takes three women to play her: the kid starting out, the glam pop star, and the icon. Whether you’re a fan or not, you won’t want to miss the dazzling Bob Mackie gowns that reportedly caused a sequin shortage in New York City.
If you haven’t seen Lin-Manuel Miranda’s blockbuster “Hamilton” yet – and few card-carrying theater geeks haven’t – you’ll have another opportunity at the Arsht Center, March 13 – 24. The life story of Founding Father and first Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton gets an updated rap- and hip-hop-infused treatment that is inspiring new perspectives on American history.
Audiences will fly high with “Peter Pan,” May 7 – 12, in a new adaptation by celebrated playwright Larissa FastHorse and directed by Emmy Award winner Lonny Price. The adventure begins when Peter Pan and Tinker Bell visit the nursery of the Darling children late one night and embark on a magical journey they will never forget. If you think it’s difficult to get glitter off your clothes, try pixie dust!
The Broadway in Miami series concludes June 18 – 23 with “Les Misérables,” Boublil and Schönberg’s musical phenomenon that has captivated the theater world for 35 years and performed around the globe. The magnificent score includes “I Dreamed a Dream,” “On my Own,” “Bring Him Home,” “and One Day More.”
