Gone, but far from forgotten. Hillary Cassel won reelection as a Democrat in November, but quickly decided to change parties, making Republicans an even bigger supermajority than before. Now, her ex-comrades are coming for her.
Todd Delmay, a longtime LGBTQ activist and political operative, is running for her seat.
“I was shocked when my own State Representative, Hillary Cassel, switched parties from Democrat to Republican,” Delmay said as he announced his candidacy. “Our community deserves a leader who stands by their values, not someone who flips for political gain.”
If Delmay and Cassel win their respective primaries for State House District 101, they’ll face off in the general election in November 2026.
This will be their second head-to-head matchup. In 2022 Delmay and Cassel, both first time candidates, ran against each other in the primary.
Delmay is currently the executive director at SAVE.LGBT, an organization with the “mission to promote, protect and defend equality for people in South Florida who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer.”
Delmay did not respond to OutSFL’s questions, including on if he will stay on at SAVE.
